2Doc2Talk – M. Deszczyński and T. Albrewczyński – From the Bizon’s repair to the treatment of rare childhood disorders.

“2Doc2Talk” is a new platform that combines doctors’ passions with their daily medical practice, going beyond the rigid confines of academia. The channel’s main goal is to show the human side of medicine, share experiences, knowledge, and passions, and inspire younger colleagues in the medical field. The doctors behind this channel—Jarosław Michał Deszczyński, M.D., Ph.D., and Tomasz Albrewczyński, M.D.—want to show how their unconventional paths to medicine and their wide-ranging interests, such as mechanics, quantum physics, and sports, have influenced their professional success.

Medicine and Passions—An Unconventional Path to Orthopedics

For both doctors, medicine was not their first choice. Tomasz Albrewczyński dreamed of becoming an engineer, and his passion for mechanics developed as early as childhood, when he used to repair farm machinery. That experience helped him develop the manual skills that proved crucial in orthopedics. Dr. Jarosław Michał Deszczyński, M.D., on the other hand, although he comes from a family of doctors, initially struggled with uncertainty about his career path, and the decision to work in orthopedics was a difficult challenge for him.

Pediatric Orthopedics – A Key Area of Specialization

Thanks to their experience in pediatric and adult orthopedics, the doctors have earned recognition for treating rare musculoskeletal deformities, including conditions related to dysplasias, congenital bone deformities, and joint problems. Jarosław Michał Deszczyński, M.D., Ph.D., and Tomasz Albrewczyński, M.D., specialize in limb lengthening and hip joint reconstruction, which are common issues among children with rare congenital defects.

The Paley European Institute, where they work, is one of the few centers in the world that offers a comprehensive approach to patients with rare orthopedic conditions, combining neuroorthopedics with advanced surgery. After completing their residency at the renowned Paley Institute in Florida, both doctors developed a unique approach to treating children and adults with musculoskeletal deformities.

Medicine as a Craft—Precision and Manual Skills

In their discussions, the hosts of 2Doc2Talk emphasize that orthopedics is, above all, a craft that requires manual dexterity. They suggest that working in a car repair shop or assembling IKEA furniture might be better practice for a young surgeon than attending theoretical conferences. Despite their different career paths, both doctors agree on one thing: orthopedics, especially pediatric orthopedics, requires precise and unconventional skills that cannot always be acquired through traditional medical education.

Dr. Albrewczyński and Dr. Deszczyński decided to give up the comfort of working within the National Health Fund (NFZ) system to gain new experience in the United States. They decided to go to the Paley Institute to acquire cutting-edge skills in treating rare conditions, which they could then bring back to Poland. This experience had a huge impact on their subsequent decisions, including the establishment of their own center—the Paley European Institute. The goal was to provide Polish patients with access to modern treatment methods without having to seek care abroad.

Hip Reconstruction and Treatment of Joint Deformities

One of the most important areas of their work is the treatment of hip joint deformities. Thanks to innovative treatment methods and collaboration with neuro-orthopedic patients, the doctors offer effective procedures that allow children to regain full mobility and improve their quality of life. Hip reconstructions are advanced procedures that improve the functioning of the musculoskeletal system in children with rare conditions.

Their approach to orthopedics is comprehensive—from diagnosis through surgery to rehabilitation. The doctors make sure that every child receives not only professional treatment but also the appropriate emotional support, which is crucial to the recovery process.

Motivation and Coping with Stress

During these conversations, the doctors also share their strategies for coping with the pressure and stress that are an integral part of a surgeon’s job. They reduce the high levels of stress and cortisol associated with complex surgeries through exercise, spending time with their families, and pursuing their hobbies, such as tinkering with cars or working on mechanical projects.

One of the cornerstones of their work is teamwork. They emphasize how important mutual support among doctors and specialists from other fields is to ensuring that patients receive the best possible care. The doctors believe that pediatric orthopedics is a field that is constantly evolving, and that doctors should be open to learning from other specialists in order to raise the standards of the entire team’s work.

Summary. 2Doc2Talk – A New Perspective on Medicine

2Doc2Talk is a podcast that offers a unique and fascinating perspective on medicine. Instead of a traditional, academic approach, the podcast’s creators—Jarosław Michał Deszczyński, M.D., Ph.D., and Tomasz Albrewczyński, M.D.—invite their listeners to discover the human side of medicine. It’s a space where doctors share not only their medical knowledge but also their passions, experiences, and personal stories, which often go beyond the rigid confines of science.

The podcast *From Repairing a Bizon to Treating Rare Childhood Disorders* (also available on Spotify) covers not only the technical aspects of treatment but also stories about everyday life in medicine, the challenges doctors face, and how their personal passions—from mechanics to quantum physics—influence their professional practice. It’s a fresh perspective on medicine that changes how we view the field and highlights the vital role played by empathy, passion, and openness to growth. Spinal Hernia – Neurological Symptoms and Treatment
How to Treat a Spinal Hernia? A spinal hernia is one of the most common causes of back pain and neurological disorders in adults. This condition occurs when the nucleus pulposus of an intervertebral disc protrudes through a damaged annulus fibrosus and begins to compress the surrounding nerves or the spinal cord. It is this compression mechanism that is responsible for the characteristic neurological symptoms of a spinal herniated disc, which can […]
