Positive Thinking Day - how to develop it in children?

Learn 5 tips on how you can help your child develop a positive attitude toward himself and the world.

Point out positive things and share it with your child

Tell your child about the good things that have happened to you and what made you happy. Ask your toddler questions about his positive experiences. Discover the joy of small things: a walk together, baking gingerbread cookies, a beautiful sunset or a rainbow after the rain. Celebrate your successes together. You can also make a diary or gratitude jar, into which you will drop a note every day with a caption or drawing of what you remember from today.

Mistakes are opportunities, not failures.

Setbacks are not pleasant. However, through them we can learn to deal with frustration, impatience or discouragement. When your child fails at something or makes a mistake, help him see what he can learn from the situation. Talk about what you can do differently next time. Ask your child what new and important things she learned about herself through the situation. What won't she do next time? What effect would she like to achieve?

Remember to be forgiving of yourself as well. After all, it happens to each of us to make mistakes. Let's learn from them in order to do better and more effectively in the future. When your child sees that you also sometimes fail at something, but you don't give up and keep trying, he will learn how to deal with failures.

Try and develop new skills

Consider with your child what his strengths are. Knowing his existing skills, provide him with opportunities to develop them and achieve successes (even tiny ones!). Let your child try new things, encourage him to make efforts. Remember, however, not to put too much pressure, as this can cause resistance. Share your interests with your child. Maybe you can do something together?

Help others

Remember to do small acts of kindness every day. Encourage your child to volunteer or participate in charity events. Collecting food for shelter animals, helping elderly neighbors with their shopping, sharing breakfast with a classmate who forgot to take a sandwich to school... The possibilities are numerous. By helping others, a person feels better and looks at the world in a more positive way. He also gains a sense of influence. For a young person, this is a very important experience.

Our Institute periodically holds charity events such as preparing cards for insurgents, which can also be used as an opportunity to act for others.

Set goals and strive to achieve them

Encourage your child to make his dreams come true. Help him create an action plan. What steps should be taken to achieve the goal? Who can help with this? What will be needed (what skills and items)? What difficulties may arise? How to deal with them? Such a view of the implementation of the task will show the child the pros and cons of a particular undertaking and increase the chance of achieving the goal. The child will know early on that there may be difficulties along the way, but this does not mean that one should be discouraged. With the use of one's skills and the support of others, it will be possible to overcome them and enjoy the dream results.
