Congenital malformations we treat at Paley European Institute: Radial club hand (RCH) underdevelopment.

Techniques for treating underdevelopment of the radius bone

Currently, centralization and radialization are the most common treatments for RCH. However, they are associated with a significant risk of complications, such as recurrence of the deformity (20-50%) and elbow bone growth arrest.

The latest technique for treating underdevelopment of the radius bone: Ulnarization

For this reason, Dr. Paley developed a treatment technique referred to as ULNARIZATION, which is the transfer of the hand to the ulnar side of the elbow bone. To date, no recurrence of deformity or damage to the growth cartilage of the ulnar bone has been observed in patients following ulnarization. However, restoration of muscle balance has been noted.

At the Paley European Institute, we are using another improved ulnarization method, Generation 3, which has been positively received by the international scientific community and published in the journal Children.

This method is very often performed at the Paley European Institute - more than 30 children from around the world have already benefited from this treatment method.

Guided Growth: A Revolution in Pediatric Orthopedics – What Is the Hemiepiphysiodesis Method?
Limb deformities in children with skeletal dysplasias do not necessarily mean surgery is inevitable. Thanks to the method of guided growth, correction is possible without cutting the bone—all it takes is a small plate and time. What is guided growth? A child’s bones grow in length thanks to growth plates—zones of active cell division located at the ends of long bones. In children with skeletal dysplasias, […]
