If the Patient has a policy issued by an insurance company, then non-cash settlements are possible, provided that all the necessary formalities are fulfilled. In such a case, the precondition is a guarantee of payment sent by a given insurance company before the service is provided.
Patients covered by the state-provided health insurance in any European Union country confirmed by an EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) may apply for reimbursement of the treatment costs after the return to their home country and once the payment for the private medical facility is made. The reimbursement rules are set forth in the Directive 2011/24/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 9 March 2011 on the application of patients’ rights in crossborder healthcare (http://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/PL/TXT/?qid=1431961837669&uri=CELEX:32011L0024)
